I'm so happy to share with you our next doggie travel guide to the Bretton Woods and Mount Washington area! This is by far one of our favorite places on planet earth! My family and I have been enjoying this resort, vacation, and national forest area for generations. It is a must see in the New England area and enjoyable year-round!

Wren has only been around with us for a short while, but we have been taking our pups to this outdoor oasis for years. We're sharing all the insider tips on where to stay, what to do, and eat with your best friends!

The Mount Washington Resort & Bretton Woods is located in Carroll, NH. Close by towns to visit include Lincoln, Littleton, Franconia, & Littleton.
Where to Stay

Bretton Woods Vacations Properties
The Airbnb we stayed at has been taken offline (bummer), but our host is a superhost in the area! The superhost, Bretton Woods Vacations, has amazing properties and I would highly recommend staying in one of their #dogfriendly Airbnbs. See all their available properties here.
The Airbnb we stayed at and all of the Bretton Woods Vacations properties are in the prime location to all the activities in the area.
Our Airbnb had an amazing wrap around porch with views of Mt. Washington. As well as a hot tub! It was an absolute blast. We visited this summer and could ride our bikes directly to the lifts for down hill mountain biking! In the winter, this property would be a short walk to the lifts too!
Camping at the KOA
If your looking for a more off-the-grid type of vacation, the KOA at Twin Mountain/Mount Washington allows dogs and even has a dog park. For booking and information on the campground, click here.
What to Do

Winter:
Winter typically poses a challenge when it comes to doing activities with your pooch! However, Bretton Woods has plenty of activities you can enjoy with your dog. Our favorites include:
- Snowshoeing: Tip! Go for a snowshoe at night on the golf course for amazing views of the stars.
- Skijoring?!: HGTV recommends this with you pup for the winter time. It's basically cross-country skiing with your dog. Bretton Woods has tons of cross country trails, view them here. Be careful of the sled dogs, they are not friendly with domestic pets.
- Après Ski: There are tons of ski mountains in the area. If you want to stick close to the resort area, ski at Bretton Woods. Then you can pop in for lunch with your pup. Bring your pup over to the mountain following your ski day for a beverage while you chill in the Adirondack chairs at the base. Some of our other favorite mountains include; Cannon (for experienced skiers) & Loon.
- Snuggles by the fire: After an active day out on the trails, cozy up with your pup by the fireplace.
Spring, Summer, & Fall:
There are endless activities to do with your pup in the Spring, Summer, & Fall in the White Mountain National Forest.
Some of our favorites include:
- Hiking
Our favorite trails for your pup include:
- Saco Lake & Elephant Head Trail (easy)
- Mount Willard Trail (easy to moderate)
- Mount Jackson (moderate to hard)
- Mount Washington (hard)
-Swimming
Take your pup for a swim at the bottom of Upper Falls waterfall. For our thrill seekers, cliff jump in!
-Lazy River
Is your pup a good swimmer? Or would they chill in a tube? Spend the day lazy rivering down the Saco River.
- Golfing
Your pup may not be able to enjoy this activity with you, but they sure can enjoy lunch with you after your round (see details on where to eat below).
Other activities that you can enjoy for an hour or so while your pup rests back at the Airbnb:
- Trail or Downhill Mountain Biking
- Horseback Riding
- Zip-Lining (year-round)
- Rock Climbing (indoors & outdoors)
- Special Events at the Resort & more!!
Remember:
Mt Washington & surrounding areas are part of the WHITE MOUNTAIN NATIONAL FOREST. This means you are exploring many wild animals' homes. You must be cautious and aware. Especially when with your dog. Always know your safety plan and always keep your dog on a leash. Any trip to the White Mountain National Forest you'll come across Moose, Fox, Bears, Deer, & more!
Where to Eat & Drink
Depending on the season the area can be more dog friendly at local restaurants & breweries. It's of course more dog friendly during the warmer months.
In general, there are not many restaurants or bars in the area as it's in the middle of a national forest! Take this opportunity to cook at home (aka your Airbnb). Maybe even make a special treat for your pup. Is it your pup's birthday or gotcha day? Make them our dog friendly cake, find the recipe here!
Dog Friendly patios (Always call ahead to confirm!):
-Enjoy the base of the Ski Lodge
- The Miranda at the Mount Washington Resort - enjoy cocktails and a cheeseboard with amazing views of the Presidential range
