DOGGIE TRAVEL GUIDE: PROVIDENCE

Updated: Apr 6, 2020

Providence! The Ocean State's capital. Providence has become a foodie & arts heaven thanks to the local universities such as Brown, RISD, Johnson & Whales, & Providence College. A perfect place to explore for a long weekend. Extend your trip by adding on other Rhode Island dog friendly towns! See our other doggie travel guides for RI here.

Where to Stay

We stayed at the dog-friendly Graduate Providence Hotel. Firstly, this hotel is a historic landmark in Providence and Rhode Island, formerly known as the Biltmore. What we love about the Graduate, is that they have made amazing updates while at the same time restoring the charm of this beautiful building.

But what we love even MORE about the Graduate is the wicked awesome rooms and how amazingly dog-friendly they were! Let's just say Wren had the ultimate special treatment. They treated her to a Bark Box upon arrival with tons of treats and Graduate themed toys! We stayed in the Graduate King Suite which was not only reasonably priced but had it's own living room!

Also location, location, location! The hotel is right in the center of downtown and has the views to prove it. There are amazing parks, theaters, & restaurants only a short walk away. The graduate is also a quick Uber across town to the East End, College Hill, and Federal Hill.

What to bring

What to do

This city is so fun to explore! I (Wren's dog mom) grew up in Rhode Island. Providence only gets better and better every time we head back to visit! From food festivals to arts and water fire - you'll never be bored!

What to do with your Dog

Walk, Shop, & Eat by Wickenden St. / Fox Point

  • Most shops are dog friendly either allowing your pup in the store or have little water bowls outside. Our favorite shops are the Twenty Stories Bookstore & the soap store across from Duck & Bunny!

  • India Point State Park

  • Catch a Ferry to Newport. We'll be sharing our Newport Doggie Travel Guide soon.

Walk, Shop, & Eat by Wayland Square

Walk, Shop, & Eat on Thayer Street

  • Stroll Brown's campus & College Hill

Other Great things to do!

  • Water Fire

  • Kayak through the City

  • One of the best things to do is find a local farm that either has flowers, apples, or berries to pick depending on the season. Most farms allow for your dog to join along!

  • Rhode Island has the best seasons. Each season has something special to offer. However, I love the spring for all the flowers and the fall for the foliage.

  • Providence is so close to the lake and the beach! Check our our other Travel Guides in New England to make a road trip out of this trip; Rhode Island, Massachusetts, & New Hampshire.

Without your Dog

Don't worry, the Graduate is extra cozy for your dog to spend a few hours in the room, while you explore the city!
